Enjoy Autumn on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

With a slight drop in temperature Autumn is the perfect time to visit the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The coolness in the evening air provides the right conditions to sit in front of a fire.

Here are a couple of extra reasons for visiting the Sunshine Coast Hinterland over the next few months.

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival

After a successful inaugural year in 2024 the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival is back in 2025. From Saturday the 3rd May to Monday the 5th May the Sunshine Coast Hinterland will host writers and readers. The theme in 2025 is “Connecting Hearts, Minds and Nature through the power of words”.

The three day program will be filled with author talks, panel discussions, workshops, book launches and more. Authors from across different genres will be presenting, including; Rachel Johns, Fleur McDonald and Michael Burge.

Book your accommodation for the weekend and enjoy a literary break in this idyllic part of South East Queensland. There is plenty to see and do when not at a Festival event. Here is a list of our top 10 recommendations of things to do on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Wedding Season

Maleny Manor

The Autumn months are peak wedding season on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The Hinterland is a favourite destination with bride and grooms as it offers a diverse range of wedding venues. From elegant purpose built wedding locations to rustic halls and a wide range of restaurants of varying sizes.

Visit Sunshine Coast Hinterland produces “i do’, a magazine which will help you find some supplies and venues. Maleny is host to several wedding suppliers, including Maleny Jewellers, who have designed hundreds of customised wedding and engagement rings.

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland makes a great destination wedding. There is plenty for your guests to do after, or before the wedding. Guests can explore the Hinterland from Maleny to Montville and out to Kenilworth and also time on the coastal strip. Visit Sunshine Coast has put together a selection of things that you can do on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Tranquil Getaways On Obi Maleny can offer you accommodation for up to 5 couples in their beautifully designed villas.  The advantage of staying at Tranquil Getaways On Obi is the location. Making gathering with your friends and family all that much easier to organise. They also offer transportation to, and from, the wedding for guests staying in the villas.

The Sunshine Coast also makes a great honeymoon location. After the wedding stay on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and enjoy all that the area has to offer. Take a romantic walk in the rainforest, enjoy a glass of champagne with a view, eat from one of the many dining locations. Get a couple’s massage or simply sit and enjoy each other’s company. Whatever you need in your honeymoon the Sunshine Coast will be able to provide it.

Easter School Holidays with Children

Amaze world Tanawha

I think that the Easter long weekend holiday is the perfect holiday. The weather is still warm, but not hot. There are no big expectations at Easter time. You can escape for a few days and no one is expecting you to attend a big family celebration nor are there present expectations. OK, maybe exchange some chocolates, and if you have children there might be an easter egg hunt. All very easy and relaxed – or at least that is my experience.  I recommend this year spending some relaxing days over the Easter break enjoying the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

If you are travelling with children there are a host of things that they will enjoy doing on the Sunshine Coast. A couple of the big draw cards for the family include: Australia Zoo, Maleny Botanic Garden and Bird World and Aussie World Theme Park.

I would also recommend a visit to Amazeworld at Tanawha. It has several mazes which you can get lost in, mini-golf, puzzles, a playground for the kids and a decent cafe. A lovely spot to spend a few hours as a family.

Further afield there is the Yandina Ginger Factory, which is not just about ginger. There you can enjoy a short train ride on Moreton the Ginger Train, or take a indoor boat ride on Overboard – both offer activities to keep the kids interested. After a ride you can get the kids to run around the Zog trail. With the use of the Augmented Reality app they can become a part of the adventures of Zog. When you are ready to stop there is a great cafe with lots of options, including delicious ice cream with some ginger options. I highly recommend macadamia and ginger ice-cream.

Tranquil Getaways On Obi Maleny offer a family midweek package which includes entry to Aussie World theme park. Call us today to see if there is availability for this Easter holiday. All members of the family will enjoy a few days away in this relaxing location.

Easter Holidays Without Children

Kenilworth Homestead

If you are travelling without children then the Sunshine Coast Hinterland will be your oasis. Great walking options including, Kondalilla Falls and walking part, or all, of the Great Hinterland Walk. Fantastic food and drink options from pubs and cafes to fine dining. Interesting shopping in the towns of Maleny and Montville. Or simply pack a picnic and enjoy the view at one of the spots along the Maleny – Montville Road.

Perhaps camping is your thing, then you might pitch your tent at Booloumba Creek Campground and be surrounded by rainforest or at Kenilworth Homestead where you can have an open fire. Both of these spots are only a short drive into Kenilworth town, which will supply all your needs from the general store, bakery, cheese factory or selection of cafes. Definitely try some Kenilworth cheese and maybe take the 1kg donut challenge at the bakery.

Whatever is your situation or expectation, a few days on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland over this Easter break will help you reset and relax.
